Finlay: Kyle Allen playing with a chip on his shoulder

When listening to Washington offensive coordinator Scott Turner talk about Kyle Allen, it's clear he speaks of the quarterback in a different tone than he does with Dwayne Haskins, JP Finlay tells The Sports Junkies.

Haskins was benched for Allen a month ago and demoted to third string. and he's yet to dress for a game since. Now, with Washington's dominant victory over Dallas before the bye, Allen now has the 2-5 team in contention for the NFC East title and a playoff spot.

"One thing that I find really interesting with Scott Turner is the way he talks about Kyle is more critical, openly critical, than he ever was with Dwayne," Finlay said on 106.7 The Fan. "And I think it's just because they have a different relationship, where Scott was trying to figure Dwayne out and get the best out of him, whereas Scott knows he can push really hard with Kyle and that Kyle should respond. It’s an interesting dynamic."

The team has come together to rally around Kyle, and his energy is infectious.

"I think they love Kyle, honestly," Finlay added. When Terry McLaurin talked about Kyle after the Cowboys game, just how much energy he brings to the team and every time you talk to him... he's a super polite and respectful young man, don't get me wrong, but he has this very obvious chip on his shoulder.

"You know, he was a five-star college recruit that went to (Texas) A&M and had to transfer to Houston. He was undrafted. He's had to fight for everything and it's obvious that that is part of who he is, and I think this team has responded."
