Washington quarterback Kyle Allen is set to undergo surgery to repair a dislocated left ankle suffered in Sunday's game against the Giants, Ian Rapoport and others report.
Allen is looking at an expected four-month recovery timeline, per Rapoport. While the injury shouldn't jeopardize his 2021 season, it remains to be seen whether that will be in Washington, as Allen will be an exclusive rights free agent. Earlier Monday, head coach Ron Rivera told reporters it "might be a little premature" to say Allen's out for the year.
Rivera confirmed Alex Smith will start in Allen's absence, but also noted he's not certain if Washington's franchise quarterback is currently on the roster.
