Byron Pringle just signed on with Pringles to create a Kansas City BBQ flavor stack of chips, so it just seems to be that time of year when athletes with food-related last names start to figure out their endorsements and branding opportunities. And though Heinicke and Heineken aren't an identical match, unlike the case of the aforementioned Chiefs wide receiver, the Washington quarterback seems to be a good fit with... Bud Light?
That's right — though the 28-year-old Old Dominion product is trying to work things out with Heineken, as noted by JP Finlay, he might start looking elsewhere. And that "elsewhere" is a brand that doesn't seem to want to turn the opportunity away.
Regardless of which brand ends up working out, I'm sure it will make for some nice gameday promos for Washington Football Team fans. For what it's worth, I'm a man of simpler tastes: Bud Light is the way I'd go. Can you blame me for wanting the cheaper, more convenient beer option at my age of 23?
Heinicke has inspired some hope so far in his brief on-field career with Washington, leading a courageous effort against the eventual Super Bowl-winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers and picking up a win in his first regular season start with the Football Team in place of an injured Ryan Fitzpatrick. He finished with an overall Pro Football Focus grade of 73.4 and a passing grade of 75.1, the latter of which ranked ninth among all quarterbacks in Week 2.
Perhaps a beer deal is the extra push that Heinicke needs to firmly take over that starting QB role and lead Washington to the playoffs once again in a still-vulnerable NFC East.
