Tim Settle departs Washington for Buffalo on two-year deal

The Washington Commanders are parting with free agent defensive tackle Tim Settle, who's agreed to a two-year deal with the Buffalo Bills.

Settle is signing a two-year, $9 million with the Bills ($7 million guaranteed) with a $4.05 million signing bonus.

The 24-year-old defensive tackle — a fifth-round selection out of Virginia Tech in 2018 — has 54 tackles (12 tackles for loss) and seven sacks in four seasons with Washington.

Coming off a career year with five sacks in 2020, Settle had hoped to double his production last season but ultimately fell well short. He didn't register a sack at all in 2021. In fairness to Settle, he was only used on 20 percent of Washington's defensive snaps, a 13 percent decrease from the year before. He also wasn't the only one on the defensive line to fall short of expectations. Montez Sweat and Chase Young wanted to make history as a pass-rushing tandem in 2021 and wound up with 6.5 combined sacks.

Settle still has plenty of room for growth, averaging only 24 percent of Washington's defensive snaps over four years.
