The Washington Football Team has agreed to acquire guard Ereck Flowers in a trade with the Miami Dolphins, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The trade also involves a "swap of late-round picks," according to Rapoport.
It's since been reported that Washington and Miami are swapping seventh-round picks, with Washington essentially moving back 14 spots in exchange for Flowers. Miami receives a seventh-round pick (244th overall) from Washington, who is getting back Miami's seventh (258). Washington originally acquired the 244th overall pick in a trade with the Raiders last September, when Washington sent its 2021 sixth-round pick to Las Vegas in exchange for Vegas' seventh-rounder and offensive tackle David Sharpe.
Washington still owns another seventh-round pick (246).
The 27-year-old former first-round pick returns to Washington where he played the 2019 season, before signing a three-year, $30 million free agent contract with the Dolphins last March.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Miami will pay $6 million in signing bonus to Flowers, with Washington paying him $3 million in base salary, bringing his total 2021 salary to $9 million guaranteed. Flowers is under contract through 2022, but that deal is only guaranteed through 2021.
The ninth overall pick in 2015, Flowers flamed out as a left tackle prospect for the Giants but revitalized his career in Washington, where he was converted into a guard under then-offensive line coach Bill Callahan. He started all 16 games for Washington that season before departing via free agency.
Flowers appeared in 14 games for Miami last season, starting all 14 at guard.
