Earlier this week, Ron Rivera said young running back Antonio Gibson was close to a breakout day.
"I think he's really close," Rivera said. "I think we saw glimpses the last few weeks, we really have.”
Well, for the first time this season glimpses came to fruition for Washington on Sunday against the Ravens.
Gibson came to life with 75 yards receiving and 31 on the ground and scored Washington's touchdown.
The first big play came on a screen pass to the left, but was wasted on a Dustin Hopkins missed field goal.
With Washington down 14-0 and in need of a spark, Dwayne Haskins found Gibson on the left for a screen pass that netted 40 yards and set up a red-zone opportunity.
A few plays later, Gibson was into the end zone to put Washington on the board.
Despite Gibson’s big day and a rather solid performance from Haskins, Washington entered the half down 21-10 because Lamar Jackson was too much.
