The Cleveland Indians have settled on a new team name, announcing they will ditch their 106-year-old moniker for the 'Guardians' after the 2021 MLB season.
The news brought renewed calls for the Washington Football Team to pick a damn name already, something that also won't occur until after 2021, as the NFL team formerly known as the 'Redskins' is officially now a year into its search for a new name.
Discussing potential name ideas on Friday, 106.7 The Fan's Brian Mitchell and JP Finlay fancied one possibility offered up by a caller, Bodie in D.C.
"What really, really gets me going is defense," Bodie began. "I'm an 80s baby so I grew up on Saturday morning cartoons. One of my favorites was 'X-Men,' and I see Chase Young and I see Montez Sweat coming off the end, and I think these guys are juggernauts. I would love to hear them screaming the 'Juggernauts' song, Washington Juggernauts. I'm going for it all the way, man. Put it out there. Washington Juggernauts. Let's go, guys."
"What are we gonna call them for short," Mitchell asked. "The Juggs?"
Finlay: "Oh boy.... Go Juggs!"
After tossing the idea around for a bit, BMitch & Finlay asked their next guest, PFT Commenter, for his opinion on the 'Juggs.'
"We had a caller call in and suggest the name 'Juggernauts,'" Finlay said, "and much like the Wizards become the Wiz and the Capitals become the Caps, obviously the Juggernauts would become the 'Juggs.' How would you think about merchandise that just said 'I love the Juggs'? I think it would sell like crazy."
"Yeah, I like that a lot," replied Mr. Commenter. "You've got the D-cup, C-cup Juggs. I like that. I think that that could work really well."
"It wouldn't work for this team in the present state they're in right now," said Mitchell.
"You can't hold our cup! We love the Juggs," shouted Finlay, suggesting a chant fans could adopt.
"Yeah. Show us the Juggs," Commenter returned. "Yeah, I think that that would be a very appropriate name for a team that you would make in a video game."
