The Wizards are last in the league right now in points allowed per game, their 121 per almost a full point more than the Jazz at 120.1 – and Thursday night’s loss did NOT help that, as they ceded an NBA season-high 162 to the Pacers in a 53-point loss.
The 162 is tied for the ninth-highest point total allowed in a game in NBA history, and it was the first time in 17 years anyone has gotten that high (since Denver dropped 168 on the then-Sonics in 2008), and even GM Will Dawkins agrees it was a bad night, but hopefully a blip on the radar.
And even if not, well, these final three weeks are the time for the Wizards to see what they have in some players, so it’s all part of the process.
“We're trying to get healthy. We have a lot of guys banged up, but we want to make sure that we're getting some momentum into the summer, and that's by playing the young guys and giving them opportunity,” Dawkins said. “Last year, we stumbled upon Tristan Vukcevic at this time of year, and Justin Champagnie, and gave those guys opportunities and they took that into the summer and kind of really helped themselves. So we're gonna keep playing young guys, try to see what we have, try to get a little healthy and finish the season on a good note.
