Wizards sign Corey Kispert to four-year contract extension

Corey Kispert is sticking around DC for a while, as he and the Washington Wizards agreed to an extension prior to Monday’s 6 p.m. deadline for rookie extensions.

The Wizards did not disclose terms, but per ESPN’s Shams Charania, who talked to Kispert’s agents at Priority Sports, the deal is a four-year, $54 million extension.

Kispert, 24, was the No. 15 overall pick in 2021 out of Gonzaga and had a career year last year, averaging career highs of 13.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from three. He really excelled in the final quarter of the season, starting 19 straight games and averaging 17.2 points per in those contests.

“Corey is someone who positively impacts our environment daily. He consistently shows up for the organization as both a player and a teammate, embodying the passion and professionalism we value,” said Wizards General Manager Will Dawkins. “We are excited that he has the opportunity to continue his growth and development in Washington. He's a relentless worker who has added to his game each season. We look forward to his further evolution in the coming years.”

Kispert has averaged 10.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in 231 games in Washington, shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from three.

Beyond the arc is his bread and butter, as his 459 threes are second-most among third-year players and the most by a Wizard in their first three seasons in franchise history. He is fourth among third-year players overall with his .388 three-point percentage, and is the first Wizard ever to have 100 or more made threes in each of their first three seasons.
