The Capitals came up empty in Game 3 of their first round playoff series against the Hurricanes, Washington trounced by Carolina 5-0 Monday night at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.
It was the first time the Caps had been shut out in a playoff game since May 10, 2017 when the arch-rival Penguins defeated them 2-0.

The Caps' slow start Monday night turned into a barren 60 minutes of hockey for the reigning Stanley Cup champs. Washington went several long stretches without mustering a single shot on goal, recording just 17 shots toal in the game.
The Hurricanes should get credit for two wins tonight. They've dominated the Capitals in every regard. What a disaster tonight has been for Washington.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) April 16, 2019Worst #Caps playoff loss since....? Game 7 against the #Rangers in 2013? I'm taking suggestions, though.
— Brian McNally (@bmcnally14) April 16, 2019The defeat sets up a pivotal Game 4 in Raleigh, the Hurricanes now with a chance to knot the seven-game series up at 2-2.
