After a furious start in the first period, the Capitals couldn't survive the battle of attrition, dropping Game 1 of their opening-round playoff series 4-3 to Columbus in overtime.
The Caps held a 3-2 lead through most of the third period. But Columbus defenseman Seth Jones evened it up with four minutes and 26 seconds remaining in regulation. Overtime would decide this contest.
