The Nationals have been the best team in baseball since May 24. But now, it appears Washington is starting to cool down again.
The Nats have lost seven of their last 10 games, dropping three consecutive series to the Dodgers, Braves, and Diamondbacks. Washington is still clinging to a playoff spot, but with six other teams within three games of the two NL wild card slots, there's almost no room for error the rest of the way.
With the schedule getting no easier, is it time to start worrying about the Nats' playoff prospects?
"But let's see how they play in San Francisco and then when they go to play the Mets. Hopefully, Max, you would hope he's back for that Mets series, if not the Cincinnati series."
"But now ... every game is big. Because there's probably five or six teams battling for those two spots."
"I think they're more than likely to be a wild card team, but I don't have a ton of confidence," said John-Paul Flaim. "I am having more doubts."
"Now that they're playing the tougher competition, all of a sudden you're losing series, you've lost seven out of 10. Definitely troubling in my mind."
