The Capitals knew going into Game 6 they'd have to get off to a good start to quiet the pro-Hurricanes crowd in Raleigh Monday night. And it was Brett Connolly who put the Caps on the front foot.

Just over five minutes into the game, Connolly received a pass from Lars Eller, maneuvering his way in front of the Carolina goal before burying a shot into the roof of the net.

It was the first time the road team had taken a lead in the series, but Washington's one-goal advantage did not last long.

Warren Foegele lit the lamp for the Canes a little over five minutes after Connolly's strike, ironically moments after the Caps had killed off a Carolina power play.

The #Canes tie it at 1-1 after the PP expires as Warren Foegele who has hurt the #Caps in EVERY way in this series, ties it up, just after the Dowd penalty expired. 10:35 of 1st.

Terrible break for the #Caps. Killing a penalty, down a broken stick, puck some how stayed in on a weird bounce along wall. #Canes capitalize to tie game 1-1.

The next goal, to channel Captain Obvious, was huge. And who else to provide a huge, highlight-reel goal than Alex Ovechkin?

Let's watch that again. In slo-mo this time.

No words. Just pure, unadulterated filth.

Alex Ovechkin's 4th goal of the series gives the #Caps a 2-1 road lead. How about the outlet from Niskanen and the job by Orlov to set OVI up at the blue line? Defensemen chipping in. Good guys lead 2-1 in the 1st. pic.twitter.com/BW2EY8np0g
