OTAs are underway at Redskins Park, meaning the majority of offseason business has concluded. But did the Redskins make enough improvements to the roster?
Grant & Danny handed out their offseason grades Wednesday,
Grant Paulsen giving the Redskins a
B while
Danny Rouhier scored it a
B-. Here's what they thought about the Redskins' additions/subtractions at each position group.
QuarterbackGrant: "You've gone from the end of the year with Mark Sanchez and Josh Johnson to right now
(Dwayne) Haskins and
Case Keenum at the most important position on the field ... With Keenum in and Haskins in, you could make the case maybe they've made the biggest upgrade of anywhere."
Danny: "The thing they're not getting enough credit for was
the Case Keenum trade. It cost them so little, and it was their insurance policy to not have to overbid for Josh Rosen, not have to overbid for Dwayne Haskins or Daniel Jones or whomever. Just let someone fall to them because they were perfectly willing, I really believe, to go into next season with that guy, him and Colt McCoy doing, if the right situation didn't come to them."
Running Back
Grant: "They're a lot better because
Derrius Guice is healthy, and
they drafted Bryce Love in the fourth round. They also
re-signed Adrian Peterson. They could have let Peterson and it'd be a bunch of younger guys ... instead, they kept one veteran to run that room and be the safety net if Guice isn't 100-percent."
Danny: "That position group all of a sudden has some depth to it, it has some excitement to it. That's a good position group."
Wide Receiver/Tight End
Danny: "This is the one. This is the one where I go, why is there not more upset, alert, frustration, desperation to improve this position? They got worse at a spot they couldn't afford to get worse at."
Offensive Line
Grant: "They took a very small step forward. I think what they did really well, their depth is a lot better.
Ross Pierschbacher and Wes Martin ... those guys are better than the Zac Kerin, Casey Dunn, random scrapheap guys that were on the roster that no longer probably will be.
Defensive Line
Grant: "You didn't have to do anything, it was already terrific. You did
re-sign Matt Ioannidis, I think that was a smart move."
Linebacker
Danny: "I think you definitely did. Again, you've got upside there. You've got Cole Holcomb, who should've been a better prospect. I can't figure out what the wrinkle is with that guy. Highly productive college player that ran pretty fast. ... But balance-sheet wise, that's 100 tackles for a part-time player in Zach Brown last year that you've got to replace."
Cornerback
Grant: "Basically, you stayed the same. If you wanna say
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie ends up helping them, then they're better. I don't know that that's a lock. They're certainly not worse."
Safety
Danny: "TBD. We'll see."
