If you thought Wayne Rooney would slow down in Year 2 with D.C. United, you were sorely mistaken.

Facing off against former Manchester United teammate Nani and Orlando City Sunday night, Rooney led United to a 2-1 victory, the club's first road win since May 19, 2018.

Rooney played a part in both goals, first assisting Steven Birnbaum with a beautiful cross to put United ahead, then in the 30th minute scored perhaps his best goal since his arrival in D.C. last summer

From another free kick deep in the corner, Rooney somehow curled the ball over the Orlando City goalkeeper and into the back of the net, a stunning goal from a nearly impossible angle which sent Twitter into a frenzy.

Wayne Rooney. Few Men have come to America with a more positive attitude and had a total blast as a result. It is a human joy to witness ---------- @dcunited pic.twitter.com/DxyZIEKFBj

Orlando City pulled a goal back in the second half but United held on to earn all three points, Rooney's ridiculous free kick proving the difference.

3 points are 3 points, but my god did those final 5 minutes take a few years off my life. #dcu

United now tops the Eastern Conference with 10 points (three wins, one draw) through four games. And with Rooney scoring goals like this, United could very well win its first conference title since 2014.
