The LeBron James rumors continue to intensify with many linking him to a possible return to Cleveland to finish out his career with the Cavs.
However, finances may get in the way of that.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on Tuesday that Cleveland could sign James for $3 million – a massive cut from the $54 million he made last year and one he is unwilling to take.
“You have to make sure that messaging is clear,” 97.1 The Fan LA’s Derek Fisher of “derek and Decker” said on Tuesday. “I don’t know if it’s directly coming from [LeBron] but certain narratives will form and build if you don’t clarify them. The news around LeBron is going to be loud.”
Among the possibilities of a LeBron-Cavs reunion would involve a sign-and-trade that would net the Lakers veteran center Jarrett Allen – a move that Fisher notes would raise many more personnel questions with the team.
“I just have a hard time leaning too heavily into specific transaction or personnel when I don’t know if anyone is directly hearing things from a team. …but Jarrett Allen fits based on who you have and who you don’t have,” Fisher said. “If you’re talking about LeBron and Allen switching out, you still have a number of other guys on the Lakers that may or may not be a great fit. Is Deandre Ayton coming back? Where does some of these other guys fit? Is Austin Reaves on the Lakers or not? Some of the things Jarrett Allen does at a high level I think every NBA team wants that. …I think he’d be a great fit, whether it’s with the Lakers or anyone.”
