Just days after being assigned to Triple-A Sacramento from the Richmond Flying Squirrels, infielder Tyler Fitzgerald was named the Eastern League Player of the Month. It was quite the multi-day span for one of Richmond's 2022 standouts, who helped the team to the playoffs last fall and returned to the lineup to begin 2023.
Fitzgerald joined the Fan on Tuesday (May 9) afternoon to discuss his time in Richmond and favorite aspects of playing in RVA.
"Just the fans coming out and you don't have to bring your own energy every day," Fitzgerald said. "You show up, get your work in and then once you walk out to the field for game time, the energy is already there. Just being around the fans, signing autographs for them, watching fireworks after the game...just listening to Parney all game in between innings, it's really entertaining.
"I loved every game I got to play in Richmond. I was not mad at all that I had to go back and start there this year, was actually really excited to get back to Richmond. It's a great place and it's definitely the best baseball atmosphere I've ever been around, especially like on a Tuesday game. You're not gonna find that kind of atmosphere anywhere else in the country in my opinion.
