The Washington Wizards drew the 10th overall selection in the 2022 NBA Draft Lottery, which was exactly in line with their odds for landing the top pick.
Washington held a three percent chance of drawing the No. 1 overall selection, slightly better than the New York Knicks, who held a two percent chance, and slightly lesser odds than the San Antonio Spurs (4.5 percent).
The Orlando Magic ultimately drew the top selection in the draft, which is scheduled for Thursday, June 23. The Magic shared a 14 percent chance of landing the top pick along with the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons. The Rockets fell to No. 3 overall, which was not nearly the precipitous fall made by the Pistons, who wound up with the fifth overall selection. The Oklahoma City Thunder (12.5 percent) nabbed the second pick while the Sacramento Kings (7.5 percent) drew the fourth overall selection.
Washington had a 65.9 percent chance of picking 10th. Here's how the top 11 picks shake out:
1. Orlando Magic
2. Oklahoma City
3. Houston Rockets
4. Sacramento Kings
5. Detroit Pistons
6. Indiana Pacers
7. Portland Trail Blazers
8. Los Angeles Lakers (to New Orleans Pelicans)
9. San Antonio Spurs
10. Washington Wizards
11. New York Knicks
The silver lining for the Wizards? They didn't wind up falling past 10, which was within the range of possibility for them — they had a 19 percent chance of picking eleventh.
