Bills re-sign linebacker Tyrel Dodson

The linebacker gets a one-year deal

The Buffalo Bills have re-signed linebacker Tyrel Dodson to a new one-year contract, the team announced on Thursday.

Dodson posted a picture of him signing his new deal on his Twitter page.

The 23-year-old was scheduled to become an Exclusive Rights Free Agent this offseason, so the Bills did not have to give him a new deal and would have retained his rights anyway. Buffalo could have simply offered him the minimum required salary for a three-year player.

However, by signing a new deal, now they can get that out of the way and also could have given him more money as a reward for his play. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A key backup linebacker in each of his first two seasons in Buffalo, Dodson played 16 games for the team last season, primarily on special teams, logging 15 total tackles. He was fifth on the team in total special teams snaps, with just under 64%.

A native of Franklin, Tennessee, Dodson was signed by the Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2019 out of Texas A&M.
