Philadelphia, Pa. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Sabres finally solved the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2022-23 season. Buffalo was able to take the hammer to the Flyers on Saturday night in a 6-3 win at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
The home side opened the scoring late in the first period on a bit of a broken play in the Sabres' defensive end. Forward Morgan Frost wired a snap shot behind goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to give Philadelphia a 1-0 advantage.
It looked like that one-goal lead would stand through a frame, but Kyle Okposo had other ideas. With a tick under 10 seconds left on the clock, Okposo accepted a pass on a 3-on-1 chance and ripped his 11th goal of the year.
The Sabres took the momentum they snagged at the end of the first period and immediately put it to good use at the start of the second.
In a span of 2:21, the Sabres scored three goals from Alex Tuch, Jordan Greenway and Jeff Skinner to help turn a tied game into a runaway for Buffalo less than four minutes into the middle stanza.
Later in the second period at the 16:02 mark, Tuch came down with speed and popped his second goal of the night without even looking at his target.
22 seconds later, the Flyers did well to keep themselves within striking distance. Frost's second goal of the night pulled Philadelphia back to within three before period's end.
Philadelphia struck again just 5:11 into the third period with a snap shot off a left-wing faceoff draw by forward Travis Konecny.
With time running out on the Flyers, they got a chance to close the gap more with a power play opportunity. However, Tuch scored his third goal of the evening shorthanded, as he displayed a suave set of hands in on the Flyers goal.
The goal was Tuch's 35th goal of the season, giving him his second-career hat-trick.
