Philadelphia, Pa. (WGR 550) – Dating back to the Buffalo Sabres' first win of the season over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Oct. 17, they’ve alternated between winning and losing.
One thing that has changed for Buffalo is the goal scoring. In their first six games, Buffalo scored 13 goals. In their last three, they’ve netted 14 goals.
Devon Levi is ready to dress as Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s backup for this game after missing five games with lower-body soreness.
In his three appearances this season, Luukkonen is 2-1-0 with a 2.84 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.
Rasmus Dahlin is on a career-high eight-game point streak. He has nine points in that time, and is tied with Jeff Skinner as Buffalo’s leading scorer.
Skinner has eight points over the course of a five-game points streak himself.
The Sabres are still doing a terrific job on the penalty kill this season, currently sitting sixth in the league at 89.2%.
The power play is still not producing hardly at all, sitting 29th overall in the league and scoring only 10.7% of the time.
Victor Olofsson will be a healthy scratch once again for Buffalo, while Brando Biro will play his first NHL game in two years.
Meanwhile, Connor Clifton will wrap up his two-game suspension from the NHL during this game.
The Philadelphia Flyers got off to a hot start this season, going 3-1-1, but they’ve been 1-3-0 since then. They get in trouble when Carter Hart isn’t in goal. The 25-year-old is 4-3-0 this year with a 2.30 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.
Travis Konecny has been playing very well for the Flyers, as he has eight goals and 11 points in nine games.
Former Sabres defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has not played yet this season, as he had a setback with his injury in late October.
The Sabres and Flyers are the only two Eastern Conference teams playing on Wednesday, so it’s a golden opportunity to make up ground.
Buffalo is currently tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators with eight points. They’re one point behind the Florida Panthers, Washington Capitals and Flyers, two points back of the New York Islanders and three behind the Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils.
