Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Sabres made a minor league trade on Monday, swapping forwards with the Washington Capitals. Buffalo acquired winger Zac Funk from Washington in exchange for Tyler Kopff.

Funk signed with the Capitals as an undrafted free agent out of the Western Hockey League back in 2024 after having played parts of four seasons with the Calgary Hitmen and Prince George Cougars.

During his final season of junior hockey with the Cougars, Funk led the entire WHL in goals with 67 in 68 games played. He also finished second in overall scoring that year with 123 points. He was also named a member of the Canadian Hockey League's First-Team roster.

In his two seasons spent playing professionally, Funk has split his time between the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League and South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL. In 25 AHL games with the Bears, Funk has only scored twice and added four assists for six points. In the ECHL, Funk has found the back of the net 12 times and added 16 assists for 28 points in 34 games played.

Funk has one year remaining on his entry-level contract.

As for Kopff, he was signed by the Sabres following his 2024-25 season at Brown University, where he put up 28 points (9+19) in 32 games as a Sophomore.

In parts of two seasons with the Rochester Americans, Kopff suited up for 36 games, scoring a goal and adding five assists for six points. He also played 10 games this past year with the Jacksonville Icemen in the ECHL, scoring a pair of goals and adding four assists for six points.

Like Funk, Kopff also has one year remaining on his entry-level contract.
