Johnson brings Stanley Cup winning experience to the table for Buffalo

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Sabres have added some veteran presence to the blue line to open NHL Free Agency, signing defenseman Erik Johnson to a one-year worth $3.25 million.

Johnson, 35, was the No. 1 overall pick of the St. Louis Blues in the 2006 NHL Draft. Johnson spent three years with the Blues and played 203 games.

After being traded to Colorado in 2011, he played 717 games with the Avalanche, which included a Stanley Cup win in 2022.

Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams is obviously looking for a veteran presence to help with Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power and Mattias Samuelsson this offseason.

In 920 NHL games, Johnson has 88 goals and 249 assists for 337 points.
