Tage Thompson, once again, named NHL's 'Second Star of the Week'

(WGR 550) – For the second-straight week, Tage Thompson has been named the NHL’s "Second Star of the Week". Thompson had four goals and four assists for eight points in three games over the past seven days.

Thompson recorded two three-point games this past week, and had one two-point outing. The Sabres' top center now has seven three-point games this season. Only Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has more.

This past week's "First Star" in the NHL was Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin. In three games, he had three goals and two assists for five points.

More importantly, he scored his 800th career NHL goal in a game where he scored a hat-trick against the Chicago Blackhawks. That’s one goal behind Gordie Howe for second all-time in NHL history, who scored 801 goals. Wayne Gretzky scored the all-time record of 894 NHL goals.

The NHL's "Third Star of the Week" was Minnesota Wild winger Mats Zuccarello, who had five goals and eight points in four games. He also tied his career-best 10-game points streak in the process.
