In a rare tweet from former Niners' quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick, the 34-year-old made it known that he still wants a shot in the NFL.
This statement is coming just a few days after he had tweeted out a workout video with the caption, "Still working."
On his Twitter account Sunday evening, Kaepernick said he's been preparing for the last five years to get another shot in the league, and also mentioned how he misses throwing to pro wide receivers and issued a challenge to any wide-outs who want to catch balls with him.
"For The past 5 years, I’ve been working out and staying ready in case an opportunity to play presented itself," Kaepernick said in his tweet Sunday evening. "I’m really grateful to my trainer, who I’ve been throwing to all this time. But man, do I miss throwing to professional route runners. Who’s working?? I will pull up."
Kaepernick didnt have to wait too long to find a throwing partner. Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett reached out to Kap via Twitter and said that he and his brother would love to come run routes for him.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kaepernick, who hasn't played in an NFL game since the end of the 2016 season is reportedly in the best shape of his life and doesn't seem to be giving up on playing football despite his other ventures just yet.
According to PFT's Mike Florio, he believes the chance that Kaepernick makes a return to the NFL is "slim to none" and mentioned how hard it would be for him to accept a backup role at the league's veteran minimum.
Could a team like Pittsburgh, whose only viable options right now at quarterback are Dwayne Haskins and Mason Rudolph, sure, but it would ultimately be a move that would alienate more than a quarter of the fanbase at the very least. Hell, even a team like Indianapolis, who are only left with Sam Ellingher and James Morgan after they traded away Carson Wentz to the Commanders could use someone like Kap as a backup option.
Although it's clear as day to see that he was blackballed from the league regardless of where you stand on his protest against the national anthem, it's highly unlikely the NFL will want him back in after suffering through an unusual rating dip for the league during the course of his protest.
