Since 1967, when Super Bowl I commenced, only 20 teams have gone on to win the Lombardi Trophies and be crowned champions.
Each decade has seemingly had its own dynasties evolve as some franchises have enjoyed more sustained success and championships than others.
Here are the teams that have won the most Super Bowls:
New England Patriots - 6

Entering the 21st century, the Patriots had not won any Super Bowls and did not have a winning reputation, to say the least. That all changed with the arrival of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
The QB-head combo dominated the AFC for 20 years, stringing together two dynasties, winning Super Bowls in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2015, 2017 and 2019. Their six titles ties them for the most in NFL history with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Brady's four MVPs with the Patriots (he won a fifth with the Bucs) are the most in Super Bowl history.

The Steelers are one of the most stable, consistent franchises of all time, having just three head coaches since 1969. Pittsburgh dominated the 1970s, winning four Super Bowls under Chuck Knoll with quarterback Terry Bradshaw and wide receiver Lynn Swann leading the way.
The Steelers would not hoist the Lombardi Trophy again until the 2005 season with second-year QB Ben Roethlisberger and wide receiver Hines Ward, who was named MVP. They earned their sixth title three years later when Roethlisberger orchestrated a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter against the Arizona Cardinals with one of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history finding Santonio Holmes in the back of the end zone.
San Francisco 49ers- 5

The 49ers have not won a Super Bowl since 1994 when Steve Young and Jerry Rice led them to a 49-26 rout over the San Diego Chargers. But it was the 1980s when the 49ers dominated under head coach Bill Walsh and quarterback Joe Montana — whose 4-0 record in the Super Bowl put him atop the greatest QB conversation until Brady came along.

The Dallas Cowboys have not been to a Super Bowl since 1995 but they remain one of the most successful franchises in sports thanks to their rich history of winning.
Dallas won two Super Bowls in the 70s – 1971 and 1978 – but it was the dynasty in the 1990s that helped turn them into "America's Team" as they won three Super Bowls in four years behind the star power of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin all the way up to new owner Jerry Jones, whose decision to replace the revered Tom Landry with Jimmy Johnson as head coach en route to building the dynasty. (Johnson would resign after the second Super Bowl, however.)
New York Giants - 4

It's been a tough past decade for the New York Giants but the franchise holds some of the most monumental wins in Super Bowl history and paved the way for influential figures such as Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick.
The Giants won their first two Super Bowls under Parcells, including the unforgettable Super Bowl XXV in 1991 when Bills kicker Scott Norwood's kick went wide right to assure victory for the Giants.
Then came the Eli Manning-Tom Coughlin era in which the Giants pulled off possibly the greatest upset in Super Bowl history by defeating the 18-0 New England Patriots with some help from David Tyree's helmet. The Giants would defeat the Patriots again four years later and would become the only team to defeat Brady and Belichick twice in Super Bowl history.
Green Bay Packers - 4

The Packers won the first two Super Bowls ever played and the trophy would garner the name of their head coach, Vince Lombardi, following his death in 1970. The Packers would not hoist the trophy again until the 1996 season when Brett Favre would lead Green Bay to its first Super Bowl in 29 years. Aaron Rodgers would add another to the franchise's history in the 2010 season when the Packers beat the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.
Washington Commanders - 3

The Joe Gibbs era was the golden days for the Washington franchise as he led the franchise to three Super Bowl victories between 1982 and 1991. Gibbs was famous for building his team around a strong offensive line (which gave birth to "the Hogs") and a strong rushing attack behind running backs John Riggins, George Rogers and Earnest Byner while each Super Bowl was won with a different quarterback – Joe Theismann, Doug Williams and Mark Rypien.
Denver Broncos - 3

The knock against John Elway early in his career was the he could not win the big one, but he changed his legacy at the very end, winning back-to-back Super Bowls in the 1997 and 1998 seasons and rode off into the sunset after the final one. The Broncos would add another in the 2015 season with Peyton Manning under center in the second half of his career.
Oakland/Los Angeles/Las Vegas Raiders - 3

The Raiders won their first two Super Bowls when the franchise was in Oakland, with the first being led by legendary Hall of Fame head coach John Madden in the 1976 season with a 32-14 thrashing of the Vikings. The Raiders would win once more in Oakland in the 1980 season before moving to Los Angeles and defeating Gibbs' Washington squad in Super Bowl XVIII.
