The New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins made some serious buzz on Sunday night with a five-person blockbuster trade that sent Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela to Minneosta and Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and catching prospect Ben Rortvedt to New York.
It’s a trade that garnered some strong reaction, particularly in New York, where fans have been calling for an end to the Gary Sanchez era in recent years.
Yet, the return of Donaldson and Kiner-Falefa — the latter a sign the Yankees may pass on the big shortstop free agents — left fans confused and even angry, wondering just how the new pieces will fit on the team.
Here’s some of the reaction on social media in the aftermath of the blockbuster trade, with many expecting another move coming to make more sense of this:
Not everyone viewed the trade as bad, though, Some saw the upside in improving the team’s defense.
Slept on the trade from last night and here are my thoughts now. Is it a weird trade? Yes very. Does it improve the Yankees? Yes. Are more moves necessary to compete for a championship? Absolutely. A trade for Matt Olson and Sean Murphy would make this make a lot more sense.

The Yankees found their stopgap at short with Isiah Kiner-Falefa and a stopgap at third in Donaldson. The Yankees will sacrifice some power for defense behind the plate with Higgy and Rortvedt. If the Yankees address first base this deal will be a bit more acceptable.

And here’s WFAN’s own Sweeny Murti’s thoughts on the trade:
