"Crusade For A Championship" North Greenville Baseball Wins National Title

North Greenville Baseball has now captured the program's 1st ever Division II National Championship. The #1 ranked Crusaders sealed the deal with a 5-3 win over Point Loma Nazarene Friday night.

The win gave North Greenville a clean sweep, going a perfect 4-0 in the tournament. The win not only gave the program its 1st ever D-II National Title but also was the 300th career win for Head Coach and former Gamecock star Landon Powell.

The Crusaders manufactured one run each in the 2nd and 3rd innings on RBI groundouts. Point Loma got on the board with a solo homer in the 5th to make it a 2-1 game going into the 6th. NGU added two in the 7th, scoring on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly. They added one more in the 8th on an RBI single for Catcher Jax Cash, one of his three hits on the night.

Point Loma rallied in the 9th with a two run homer, that would be as close as they would get. Oconee County product Tristen Hudson would work the 9th in relief and shut the door. Reece Fields got the win on the hill for North Greenville. He was named Tournament MVP after getting wins in two of the Crusaders four games. 2nd Baseman Gehrig Octavio, 3rd Baseman Pat Monteith and DH John Michael Faile were all named All-Tournament selections.
