(670 The Score) The Bulls floundered in their third rebuilding season, underachieving at 22-43 before the coronavirus pandemic halted the NBA campaign.
New executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas understands that -- it's why the lead job opened up, after all -- but as he begins a new chapter of his journey, he isn't much interested in that aforementioned descriptive term.
Rebuild.
"I'll do my best to do a quick turnaround," he said on the Mully & Haugh Show on 670 The Score on Tuesday morning. "I kind of stay away from the word 'rebuild.' This roster is the second-youngest roster in the league, and I'm familiar with that. But they have a lot of talented guys. My main thing is to take time right now to get to know each member of the coaching staff, of each department, to get to know players. Honestly, it's difficult to do right now when we're sitting at home taking phone calls and possible Zoom calls, video calls. It's kind of surreal. I think my biggest advantage is face-to-face communication. It's difficult so far, but I'm sure we're going to have time. You'll see the growth."
"I'm looking at from Zach (LaVine) to Lauri (Markkanen) to Wendell (Carter Jr.) to Coby (White), those are great young pieces out there. Again, I can go through each player and what I think about him, but until I sit down and talk to those guys and just to see what they think happened last year and their experiences and what worked, what didn't work, that's important for me to do. And I haven't done it yet."
