(670 The Score) Bulls rookie center Wendell Carter Jr. underwent surgery Monday morning to repair the ulnar collateral ligament of his left thumb, the team announced.
Dr. John Fernandez performed the procedure at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush. The Bulls called the surgery "successful." They had recommended last week that Carter have the surgery, and he chose to do so after consulting his representation.
Carter's timeline for a return is eight to 12 weeks, as the Bulls said last week. It's possible he could miss the rest of the season. The back end of the timeline would take Carter past the team's regular-season finale on April 10.
The 19-year-old Carter suffered the injury while bracing himself in a fall in a loss at the Los Angeles Lakers last Tuesday. He has averaged 10.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks while shooting 48.5 percent in 25.2 minutes across 44 games.
