(670 The Score) -- After a blowout loss on in Washington on Saturday night, four Cubs players went out for a night of fun. Little did they realize it was all being captured on a phone camera.
First baseman Anthony Rizzo, left-hander Jon Lester, outfielder Kyle Schwarber and outfielder Albert Almora Jr. were videotaped at a bar late Saturday night and into early Sunday morning in footage given to TMZ, the popular tabloid news site. It included the note that the Cubs quartet enjoyed time at a bar and stopped afterwards at McDonald's.
"I don't remember that night," Rizzo joked Tuesday when asked of the TMZ story.
The TMZ footage showed nothing more than the players having fun away from the game ahead of a 7:05 p.m. ET start time the next night. That was a game the Cubs would go on to win 6-5 against the Nationals and one in which Rizzo homered, Schwarber drove in two runs and Almora went 3-for-3.
As far being captured in public like that, Rizzo understands it's part of being a professional athlete and celebrity figure in 2019.
"It's really part of the gig," Rizzo said. "You understand that wherever we go, you're going to be watched. You just don't do anything that's going to embarrass yourself -- too much. If eating McDonald's is embarrassing, you might not be American.
"Out in the field, you're representing more than yourself. There's a difference between having fun like we did. It's being smart."
