(670 The Score) Baseball Prospectus on Tuesday released its PECOTA projections for the 2020 season, and the predictive algorithm sees playoff potential -- to varying degrees -- for Chicago's two teams in 2020.

PECOTA projects the Cubs for 84.5 wins with a 51.5% chance at making the postseason. It pegs the White Sox for 82.5 victories with an 18.1% chance at reaching the playoffs.

The Cubs have a 32.6%chance of winning the National League Central, according to PECOTA, which ranks them behind only the Reds in the division. Cincinnati is projected for 86.1 wins with a 47.3% chance of winning the NL Central.

The improved White Sox hold a 5.9% chance at winning the AL Central, checking in behind the Twins (93.4 wins) and the Indians (86.1 wins).

PECOTA is highest on the Dodgers, who have been pegged for 102.5 games with a 99.9% chance of winning the NL West. The Yankees project as the best team in the American League, tabbed to win 99 games with an 89.1 percent chance at taking the AL East.

The PECOTA projections were pretty accurate for the Cubs and White Sox in 2019. It projected the Cubs to win 82 games -- which perplexed many in the fan base -- and they ended up winning 84 after a late-season collapse. PECOTA pegged the White Sox to win 70 games, and they won 72.

Opening Day for the MLB season is March 26. The Cubs open up against the Brewers in Milwaukee. The White Sox host the Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field.
