(670 The Score) The Cubs have made another low-profile trade in an attempt to strengthen their bullpen.

Chicago has acquired righty reliever Travis Lakins from Boston, the team announced Tuesday afternoon. The Cubs will send the Red Sox a player to be named later or cash consideration. Lakins has been added to the Cubs' 40-man roster, which is now full.

Lakins, 25, made his MLB debut in 2019, when he posted a 3.86 ERA in 16 appearances. Three of those were starts of the "opener" variety, in which a team uses a reliever for the first inning or two of a game as it plays the matchups. Lakins struck out 18 and walked 10 batters in 23 1/3 innings, over which he had a 1.41 WHIP. The Red Sox recently designated him for assignment.

Lakins had a 4.60 ERA in 45 innings across 40 appearances at Triple-A Pawtucket last season. The Red Sox selected him in the sixth round of the 2015 amateur draft.
