Happ Makes Kid's Day With Cardboard Cutout Selfie

(670 The Score) Cubs outfielder Ian Happ made a young fan's day in a manner that speaks to life in 2020.

Happ took a selfie with a cardboard cutout of seven-year-old Luke Fynaardt ahead of the Cubs' game at the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on Thursday. Happ is Fynaardt's favorite player, and he had wanted to see the Cubs play in person in 2020, the Des Moines Register reported. When the lack of fans in the stands amid the pandemic prevented that, Luke's mother, Erin, tweeted a request to Happ for him to take a selfie with Luke's likeness.

So Happ took a moment to find Luke's cutout in the stands of Kauffman Stadium.

We still got a picture together! Thanks Luke! pic.twitter.com/OEktleQZNd

The Fynaardts -- from New Sharon, Iowa -- were overjoyed by Happ's gesture. Luke had met Happ at a Cubs meet-and-greet two years ago, the Register reported.

"Really shocked," Erin Fynaardt told the Register. "It almost brought me to tears just because I know how much Luke looks up to him."

Luke was wearing a Royals jersey in his cardboard cutout photo because the Kansas City organization didn't allow photos with logos of opposing teams.
