Bryant 'Doing Better,' Not Expected To Play Tuesday

(670 The Score) Cubs third baseman/outfielder Kris Bryant is "feeling better" after a collision Sunday led to his head/neck being evaluated, but he isn't expected to play when Chicago faces Houston on Tuesday night, manager Joe Maddon said.

"We'll just wait and see," Maddon said on the Laurence Holmes Show on Tuesday afternoon. "I don't have anything dramatically new to report except that he's feeling better."

Playing right field, Bryant collided with center fielder Jason Heyward in the sixth inning of a 10-2 loss to the Reds at Wrigley Field. He then exited the game under his own power and was evaluated for a head/neck injury. The Cubs haven't specified the exact nature of what's wrong. Bryant sat out a 6-5 loss to the Astros on Monday.

Bryant is hitting .283 with 12 homers, 34 RBIs and a .972 OPS in 50 games.

Heyward is expected to play Tuesday evening after sitting out Monday's game as well, with Maddon penciling him into the lineup.

"He's just sore," Maddon said of Heyward.

The collision wasn't the first costly one for the Cubs in recent years, as outfielder Kyle Schwarber tore the MCL and ACL in his left knee after an impact with then-teammate Dexter Fowler in April 2016.

"Sometimes, it just goes awry," Maddon said. "I didn't specifically ask them, but I bet they called (for the ball) at the same time."
