(670 The Score) Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was named an All-Star on Sunday for the third time in his career.
Bryant received the honor by being selected as a National League reserve. He was also an All-Star in 2015 and 2016, when he was the NL MVP. Reserves are selected by players and the league office after fans vote on the position player All-Star starters.
"This is the most special one I've had so far, and that means a lot," Bryant told the Sun-Times before referencing a trying, injury-plagued 2018.
"Obviously, last year didn't go the way I wanted it to, but I battled through some things. And in the offseason working really hard on just being healthy. And it's paid off for me."
Bryant will join teammates Javier Baez and Willson Contreras in Cleveland on July 9, as they were voted in as the NL starters at shortstop and catcher, respectively. No other Cubs players made it.
Bryant, 27, is hitting .287 with 16 homers, 41 RBIs and a .926 OPS in 79 games.
