(670 The Score) Beyond the graphics and technological features, another new look in the Cubs' first regular-season games on the Marquee Sports Network over the weekend was the dress code of the broadcasters.
Play-by-play man Len Kasper and color analyst Jim Deshaies were in suits and ties. That was a departure from years past, when the duo typically wore polo shirts as Cubs games were broadcast locally on NBC Sports Chicago, WGN and other stations.
First weekend watching #Marquee. What's with the suits for Len and JD? So weird. Not humane with these 95 degree summer days. I was sweating just watching them. Stay cool, guys! Glad to hear their voices again. #Cubs pic.twitter.com/lZoWv5yFDo
— T2 (@CommodoreTom) July 26, 2020The suit-and-tie look is at the behest of Marquee management, which wants to present "national network quality" broadcasters, as Jon Greenberg of the Athletic reported. So what does Kasper think of it?
He's cool with it.
"I'm good with it," Kasper said on the Laurence Holmes Show on Monday afternoon. "I don't think too much about what we wear. When we got to Chicago, they basically handed us a big box of logo-ed clothing and said, 'That's what you'll wear.' I wore a jacket and tie every day in Florida when I was with the Marlins and a lot of days, it was pretty much 95 degrees, so I'm used to it. It's one of those things I don't really think a lot about. It made me chuckle that it became such a big deal on social media."
