(670 The Score) The Cubs selected Louisville right-hander Michael McAvene in the third round at No. 103 overall of the MLB amateur draft Tuesday.
McAvene, 21, has been a lights-out reliever for the Cardinals, posting a 2.67 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in 21 appearances out of the bullpen this season. He has 46 strikeouts and nine walks in 30 1/3 innings while holding foes to a .160 batting average. Louisville has advanced to Super Regionals, but McAvene won't be available to pitch in that round, as he's serving a four-game suspension for an ejection for arguing with the umpires in regional play.
