Cubs To Acknowledge Racial Injustice In Opener

(670 The Score) The Cubs have a plan in place to bring awareness to and demonstrate against racial injustice ahead of the season opener against the Brewers at Wrigley Field on Friday evening, manager David Ross said Wednesday.

Ross declined to reveal what the team had in mind specifically. Players and coaches from several MLB teams have taken knees during the national anthem ahead of exhibition games in recent days.

"We've had multiple meetings on the racial injustice topic," Ross said. "We've got a plan in place for Opening Day that these guys are unified with. It's really has been some great discussions, some great conversations learning a lot about things that we don't see or what other people may be going through. It's been powerful for this group to have those discussions and brought us closer together in my opinion. It's been very rewarding on my end, and we've got great leadership here between the players, our front office group and our coaching staff."

Right-hander Kyle Hendricks will be taking the mound for the Cubs in their opener and echoed Ross' thoughts on the benefit of the team's recent conversations.

"We have had a lot of good discussions among us as teammates, just among friends and brothers," Hendricks said. "We have had really good open discussions about what all of this means and how we want to move forward. The main point is that we are all together. We are a family here. We will be unified in moving forward together. I just want to support my guys. Especially J-Hey (Jason Heyward), (Jeremy) Jeffress, all these guys. We are still coming to terms as to what it will be Friday. We are all on the same page. We want to be a team on that also."
