The NFL will mandate that fans wear masks when in attendance for games during the coronavirus pandemic this season, league spokesman Brian McCarthy said on Twitter on Wednesday.
It's unclear how many teams will be allowed to have fans in attendance. As it currently stands, the Bears aren't allowed to welcome fans in any capacity, with Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot saying the city isn't ready for venues like stadiums to hold crowds. The state of Illinois' guidelines do currently allow for outdoor venues to hold crowds at 20% capacity.
All NFL preseason games will be canceled this season, according to reports. Chicago is set to open its season at Detroit on Sept. 13. The Bears' home opener is scheduled for Sept. 20.
