(670 The Score) The NFL could soon be have an expanded playoff structure.
As collective bargaining agreement negotiations continue, a current proposal being considered would include seven teams from each conference making the playoffs, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Wednesday evening. Only the top seed from each conference would have a first-round bye in the proposed 14-team playoff format. The proposal is gaining momentum as optimism grows that a new CBA could be agreed upon in the next week, Schefter reported.
If passed, the change would go into effect for the 2020 season, Schefter reported.
The NFL has had a 12-team playoff structure since 1990, with the top two teams in each conference receiving byes as the wild-card round is contested.
