Aaron Rodgers has become so upset with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he doesn't want to return to the team, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Thursday afternoon, just hours before the start of the NFL Draft.
Rodgers, 37, is the reigning league MVP and is under contract through the 2023 season, when he'll be 40. Rodgers threw for 4,299 yards, 48 touchdowns and five interceptions in his sensational 2020 season.
"As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond," Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said in a statement. "Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."
There were reports earlier Thursday that the San Francisco 49ers reached out to the Packers regarding Rodgers, but there's "zero percent chance" that Green Bay would move him. If any team were to make a deal for Rodgers, it would likely have to be agreed upon prior to the start of the draft Thursday evening, when teams like the 49ers, and Patriots must decide whether to draft a franchise quarterback.
This could also be a negotiating ploy by Rodgers in order to get a contract extension. The Packer shocked many in 2020 when they used their first-round draft pick on quarterback Jordan Love. That move upset Rodgers, who wasn't notified ahead of time, according to reports.
