Aaron Rodgers admits his future with Packers is 'uncertain'

(RADIO.COM Sports) Deshaun Watson, Matthew Stafford and Carson Wentz could be among the quarterbacks available on the trade market this offseason. Could another big name also join them?

After the Packers' disappointing loss at home to the Buccaneers in the NFC championship game Sunday, Green Bay star quarterback Aaron Rodgers admitted his future with the organization is "uncertain." That's certainly not a scenario that Packers coach Matt LaFleur wants to think about, as he made his stance clear.

The potential problem, of course, is self-inflicted by the Packers organization, who moved up to select quarterback Jordan Love with the No. 26 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. If not for that trade, there wouldn't be any discussion about the future of Rodgers, who led the NFL with 48 touchdown passes in 2020.

Rodgers is 37 but is coming off of one the finest seasons in his illustrious career. He also just lost to Buccaneers star quarterback Tom Brady, who's now 43, on the NFC's highest stage, so there's reason to believe Rodgers could have five or more really good seasons left. Love's presence, though, does make you wonder whether Rodgers, like Brady, could finish his career with a team other than the one he'll be most remembered with.

It's hard to imagine the Packers seriously entertaining the possibility of trading Rodgers this offseason. Not only is he still playing at an elite level, but the Packers would have to take on $31.5 million in dead cap money if Rodgers was traded before June 1, according to Over The Cap.

However, if Rodgers decides he wants to start a new chapter in his career in 2021, that could change the dynamic.
