(Audacy) There's news on star quarterback Aaron Rodgers' future, but it doesn't pertain to the Green Bay Packers.
As the NFL world waits on the 10-time Pro Bowler Rodgers to decide whether he'll return to the Packers for an 18th season, he and actress Shailene Woodley have ended their engagement and broken up as a couple, according to multiple reports.
“While Shailene is supportive of Aaron’s career, he put football first and they were barely spending any time together,” one insider told InTouch. “She felt he neglected their relationship. Neither of them was happy.”
Rodgers "got cold feet" but the split was "amicable," the report added. The couple got engaged in 2020.
Rodgers just won his second consecutive NFL MVP award and fourth overall -- putting him in sole possession of the second-most wins of the award in NFL history. Only Peyton Manning (five) has more.
Still, it was hardly smooth sailing for the 38-year-old Rodgers in 2021.
Rodgers waited until the final weekend before training camp to decide if he was going to play for the Packers in 2021, as he was still upset at the team's decision to trade up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft and select quarterback Jordan Love, his likely successor.
He also drew heavy criticism throughout the 2021 season for being outspoken in his skepticism of COVID-19 vaccines and how both the NFL and country continue to try to mitigate the damage from the pandemic.
After going 13-4 and securing a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs, the Packers were upset by the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round, a loss that some have argued is the worst of Rodgers' illustrious career.
Still, the Packers "are prepared to go all-in" on Rodgers for 2022, assuming he is interested in returning to the team, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported last weekend.
