(670 The Score) American Family Field – the home of the Brewers and previously known as Miller Park – has long been referred to as "Wrigley North" because of the thousands of Cubs fans who flock to Milwaukee and overtake it when the teams square off.
Over the weekend, we saw that White Sox fans can have a similar presence, as they hit up American Family Field in droves for a series between the two division leaders.
The presence of Chicago fans has been so overwhelming in the past that the Milwaukee organization at times in recent years limited ticket sales for Cubs-Brewers games to Wisconsin residents.
But fear not – what the Brewers lack in locking down American Family Field, they make up for … with their online presence. We know that because a Brewers "Best fan base in baseball" billboard will go up in Chicago at the corner of LaSalle and Grand on Aug. 9, according to Fox Sports' MLB Twitter account, which ran a contest of sorts to pull a stunt seemingly as old as time. Apparently, Brewers fans were good at voting online.
Of course, we have to give credit where credit is due. The Brewers' superb play and big lead in the NL Central is a big reason the Cubs have been forced into being sellers ahead of the trade deadline Friday.
The Brewers also took two of three games from the White Sox over the weekend in a series that had a playoff feel to it. Could it have been a preview of a World Series matchup? We'll have to wait, but it's fun to dream.
