(670 The Score) The Bears' adjusted salary cap is set for the 2021 season, and it includes a boost from rollover.
The Bears will operate with a salary cap of $190 million for the upcoming season, according to Spotrac, which is $7.5 million more than the $182.5-million salary cap that was set by the NFL. Part of that rollover came from nose tackle Eddie Goldman, whose $4.75-million base salary moved onto the 2021 cap sheet after he opted out of playing in the 2020 season.
The NFL's $182.5-million salary cap for 2021 is a decrease from the $198.2 million of 2020, with the dip coming in part due to financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. The league's salary cap is expected to rise once again in the coming seasons.
The Bears are currently projected to be around $22.5 million over their adjusted cap of $190 million after utilizing the franchise tag on star receiver Allen Robinson on Tuesday. The tag comes at a cost of $18 million for Robinson in 2021. The two sides have until the July 15 deadline to work out a long-term deal.
The Bears must be under the $190-million threshold by 3 p.m. CT next Wednesday, when the new league year begins.
