(104.3 The Score) The Bears have a vacancy at offensive coordinator after Declan Doyle left for the same position with the Ravens.
In Baltimore, Doyle will serve as the Ravens’ play-caller and lead that offense alongside defensive-oriented head coach Jesse Minter. And in Chicago, the Bears need to fill his void on head coach Ben Johnson's staff.
Though Doyle didn't serve as the Bears’ play-caller – Johnson handles that on offense – veteran tight end Cole Kmet praised Doyle's impact on the team.
“I know even though Declan isn’t calling the plays for us, the amount of work that he did on the offensive side of the football was immense,” Kmet told the Rahimi, Harris & Grote Show on Monday. “You could see that day to day in practices. I’m sure it took a lot off of Ben for his duties as a head coach.
“Declan was very hands-on with all of us. That is a big role. I somewhat understand people on the outside saying, ‘Oh, if you’re not calling plays, really, what are you doing?’ These guys do a lot of stuff in terms of preparation of the game plan and getting us ready to go for practice throughout the week. That really shows up big time on Sunday.
“Declan was definitely a very valuable piece to us.”
The Bears could within on Johnson’s staff for their new offensive coordinator. Internal candidates include passing game coordinator Press Taylor, quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett and wide receivers coach/assistant head coach Antwaan Randle El.
