(670 The Score) The Bears left open the door for quarterback Justin Fields to return against the Saints on Sunday. That door is now closed.
Fields was officially ruled inactive for Chicago's game at New Orleans in the Caesars Superdome. The Bears had previously listed him as doubtful to play after he returned to practice Friday at Halas Hall.
Bears rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent will make his third NFL start. Bagent has completed 70% of his passes for 477 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in three games. He stepped in at quarterback when Fields dislocated his right thumb during an Oct. 15 game at Soldier Field.
The Bears' inactives also include safety Jaquan Brisker (concussion), linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (knee), right guard Nate Davis (ankle), cornerback Terell Smith (mono) and pass rusher Dominique Robinson.
Star pass rusher Montez Sweat, whom the Bears acquired through a trade this week and signed to a contract extension Saturday, is active and will play.
The Bears (2-6) and Saints (4-4) kick off at noon CT on Sunday.
