(104.3 The Score) Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is considered "week-to-week" with his hamstring injury, head coach Ben Johnson said Monday afternoon.
The Bears don't anticipate that Williams will practice this week, but they aren't yet ruling him out for their game against the Eagles next Monday night at Soldier Field.
Williams suffered the hamstring injury on a run around the left end in the fourth quarter of the Bears' 9-3 loss to the Vikings on Sunday. After getting to the sideline, he was carted to the locker room for further evaluation at Soldier Field. Williams underwent further imaging on Monday, which Johnson called "somewhat encouraging," a glimpse into the team's belief that Williams won't have a long-term absence.
The Bears will turn to backup quarterback Tyson Bagent in Williams' absence. Veteran Case Keenum will be the backup to Bagent.
"I feel strongly about what he's capable of, and our team does too," Johnson said of Bagent. "They know he's a darn good football player."
Williams, 24, hasn't missed a game in his three NFL seasons. He also hasn't been listed on the team's injury report prior to this week.
The Bears will assess Williams' status this week with the training staff while determining the next steps for his return.
"Here's what I know, this guy is a little bit different than the average human being," Johnson said.
"I'm not putting a timeline on this. We're going to say week-to-week."
