LAKE FOREST, Ill. (104.3 The Score) – The Bears selected Iowa center Logan Jones with the No. 57 overall pick in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday evening.
Jones, 24, was a unanimous All-American and the winner of the Rimington Trophy as the nation's top center last season. He was a three-time All-Big Ten center who started 50 games for the Hawkeyes.
The Bears' selection of Jones addresses their long-term need at center, a position previously vacated by Drew Dalman’s sudden retirement in March. Shortly after that, Chicago acquired veteran center Garrett Bradbury in a trade with New England. Bradbury is entering the final year of his contract.
Jones projects to compete with Bradbury for the Bears' starting center position in the upcoming season.
The Bears entered Friday also holding the No. 60 overall pick in the second round, but they traded it for No. 69 (third round) and No. 144 (fifth round). Chicago also holds a third-round pick at No. 89 on Friday.
